Panarchy - (n.) The hierarchical set of adaptive cycles at different scales in a social-ecological system, and their cross-scale effects.  This nesting of adaptive cycles -- from small to large -- and the influences across scales is referred to as a panarchy.

Enterprise - (n.) A collective endeavor.

Enterprise Archtiecture - (n.) The descriptive representations of a collective endeavor (an enterprise).  The enterprise architecture is described by the Zachman Framework ontology, with its structured set of essential components of an enterprise for which explicit expressions are necessary for creating, operating, and changing the enterprise.

Panarchitecture - (n.) A framework linking the descriptive representations between enterprises and spanning different scales of a social-ecological system.

This discipline of panarchitecture emerges from the synthesis of the concepts established by C.S. "Buzz" Holling and John Zachman and leverages the foundation established by the Federated Enterprise Reference Architecture Community.
